When we put our tree up, I noticed a big ugly. A big, ugly, bare spot on the wall right next to the tree. I thought, hmmm, I should paint something (but I’m not much of a painter), then I thought, PHOTO!!! Now that I can do. That’s how I came up with the Christmas Wall Art with Mounted Photos.
So I started snapping pictures of different decorations. I knew I wanted some horizontal and some vertical, so I shot accordingly.
After I had chosen the ones I wanted to work with, I uploaded them to a one hour photo service and picked them up. Stopped by Home Depot and got a sheet of thin MDF. I traced the exact size of the prints onto the wood, then they were cut out. I used a paint pen to go around the edges so that if they were not perfectly the same, it wouldn’t show as much. I did the same thing to the sides of the boards.
(If you have no way to cut wood, I’m sure you could do this with canvas)
Next, I used Mod Podge to adhere the photo to the board.
Brushed it on as evenly as I could.
I went over it with a brayer (just because I had one, you could use a bottle if you don’t have a brayer) to smooth out any bubbles. My brayer looks like it has something on it, but it’s just ink from years of use.
I let them dry thinking I would go over the top with Mod Podge, but I didn’t. Drilled a little hole in the back so they could be hung on little steel pins, which make a tiny hole in the wall so it won’t be noticeable when it comes time to take them down.
I would have printed larger photos, but the one hour didn’t offer anything larger than 8 x 10.
So there you have very inexpensive and easy decorations for an empty wall, Christmas Wall Art with Mounted Photos. This could be done for all seasons…. hmmm, I know I have some photos around here somewhere. 🙂
What kind of ideas does this project give you? Have you done anything similar?

Ok, now I officially think I’m un-crafty. These are so great! I also have a large blank wall space next to my tree. These are so easy to make and can be especially themed for the holiday. Thanks for sharing!

hahaha, no, I don’t believe you’re un-crafty Cherie! I think everyone is crafty, they just need inspiration.
I’m glad you liked them, and yes, they could be themed to any time of year or holiday. Give some a try!

Well thank you Jo… and welcome! Thanks for commenting here, it’s nice to see a familiar “face”.
I really do need to do something with my photos that would make me $$. If I could perfect this technique, I just might try some on Etsy. Thanks for the positive vote!!

Thank you Kim! I hope you do try it. It was literally only a few hours from the time I took the pictures to the time they were finished and ready to hang. Very affordable and easy.
