Recycled Wood Flooring Into A Christmas Sign

Recycled Wood Flooring Into A Christmas Sign

RecycledWoodFloor

A few weeks ago, some friends of ours asked if I wanted some old wood flooring that they were pulling up, and since to me junk is treasure, I said SURE!!  I have a good bit of it, and this is the first project with it.

Pretty simple process to turn the old wood flooring into a Christmas sign.

Glued and clamped some pieces back together.

Gave it a little light sanding.

A light coat of paint.  I was going to do red and white, then I thought I’d do it a little different.  So I picked a bright green.

I roughly sketched out the letters, then used a flat brush to paint them in.

Made a stencil from an old piece of cardstock using my Cricut and stenciled it on a few places.

Then back out to the shop for a light sanding.

Turned out kinda cute.

Any ideas for using more of the old wood flooring?

  1. No ideas for the rest of the wood, but I have tons of admiration for the sign. That’s so fantastically simple! Even I could do that and not mess it up too badly.

Thank you so much Missy! Yes, I expect most anyone could do this type of sign. When you sand it, that automatically makes it “not perfect”, so any blunders you’ve made up to that point will be lessened (or sanded off). You could still go over it with a stain and give it an aged look too.
Let us see what YOU make when you do one!! 🙂

  2. It really did turn out really nice. I’m no good when it comes to making stuff but even this makes me think I can do something. Thanks for sharing.

OF COURSE you can do something Amanda!! Everyone has a talent for being creative, but they can’t find it unless they try.
    Thanks for the compliment!!

  3. I love that sign! Salvaged/repurposed awesomeness! Maybe add hooks to painted, distressed wood for a coat rack, or distressing it to lay flat on a table with votive holders and mirror for sparkly reflection. Attach corkboard for a place to pin lists or pictures. So much fun!!

Oh I love your ideas!!! My wheels are turning. I can see a few strips glued together (long), painted a distressed coat of white, some mirrors and/or little square and round mirror pieces strewn down the center with some branches painted white and glitter or epsom salt on them in a container in the center…candles, this might replace my current Christmas decoration on my table and leave it for the winter. 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration.

  4. This is great, we always have scrap something around here.. house in a constant state of ‘dis’ repair. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for wood destined for the trash or burn pit and try my hand at this. I think I’d like it for a sign out by our mailbox, maybe just ‘welcome’ with a design or flower stencil ? Will be sure to share if/when I get to it 🙂

That sounds like a great idea and plan. Rescuing things destined for the landfill and giving it new life, is always a good thing. Looking forward to your creation.

  5. I love ANYTHING that has a birdhouse! I especially like how you hung the little candy canes on the branches.

Thank you Bonnie!! 🙂 I have several birdhouses made out of old wood that my dad made years ago. I like to set them around for decoration.
